GREAT PUMPKIN AND VEGETABLE COMPETITION RULES

1. Description of a Great Pumpkin: A fruit cream-yellow to orange or mottled in color. Pumpkin colors will include orange, red, yellow, tan, cream, white, and any/or combination of these colors. All others will be considered squash.

2. An exhibitor may enter only 1 specimen per class, and the exhibitor MUST have grown the specimen.

3. All entries must be weighed in at the official Great Pumpkin site on Friday, October 1st. From 4 pm to 7 pm. All items not brought in at this time will not be judged, but can be displayed.

4. Pumpkinfest has moved to Downtown South Lyon. Bring your entry to the parking lot on the northwest corner of Liberty Street and Pontiac Trail. Please note that Pontiac Trail will be closed 7pm Friday between Liberty St. and Whipple St. for Pumpkinfest setup.

5. Entry must remain at the weigh-off site until 4pm Sunday, October 3rd, and MUST be picked up no later than 6pm, or entry WILL BE hauled to the dumpster.

6. All pumpkins or large squash must be on a skid or pallet so that our forklift can easily take the entry to the scale.

7. The pumpkin or squash will be weighed with the pallet. If any entries weigh the same…the judge’s decision will be final.

8. Specimen must be healthy and completely undamaged, showing no signs of rot or deterioration.

9. All specimens will be free from fungicides, pesticides, and foreign material found in such places as cracks or holes. This is an environmental hazard, and also allows holes leading to be plugged up.

10. If an entry shows any evidence of holes that have been used for injecting fluid into a cavity and then plugged, it will be immediately disqualified.

11. Judges reserve the right to cut the fruit if deemed necessary for inspection. Refusal to allow the inspection will cause said entry to be deemed “exhibition only”.

12. The South Lyon Area Pumpkinfest and its sites shall not be liable for compensation of loss or damage to any exhibit or personal property.

13. Weights will be recorded in two-pound increments.

14. All decisions of the judges are final.
